The kindergartners in Holly Power's room enjoyed an edible science experiment! After learning about solids, liquids and gases in this week's "Water Unit", students studied and enjoyed Root Beer floats to illustrate the concept. Before eating, the students had to state which part of the float was solid, which was liquid, and which was gas. They drew a picture of what their floats looked like when the soda was added and wrote a description! Who said learning can't be delicious!

Some AHS students plan to participate in the National School Walkout today at 10 a.m. Since the safety and security of our students is top priority, the front parking lot at the High School will be blocked off from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Thank you for your cooperation.

Hard Hat Workers
Congratulations to Abria E., Landen M., Kaylor W. and Shyanne W. for being chosen as the “Hard Hat Workers” for the month of March. These students exhibit determination and put forth their best effort everyday in the classroom. They ate lunch with a representative from Trilogy Plastics, Ms. Waller and Mrs. Balderson. Students discussed possible future career choices.
After learning about the Deaf President Now protest of 1988, high school students work together to create their own protests!
March Madness
Move over sports fans, a new kind of bracket is coming to town. The First Grade Rockhill March Book Madness "Famous Author Edition" has officially begun. Book Madness, in the spirit of college basketball’s popular tournament known as “March Madness,” is literary competition hosted by the first-grade teachers where students pit title against title from the most famous children's authors and decide which will advance to the next round. In the end, only one will be left standing as the "2018 Book of the Year". Teachers worked to create a bracket of 16 famous picture books and have pitted them against each other. Students will be voting in each round. Voting will also include opinion writing and writing about the story elements.
AELS had a Family Fun Day at the YMCA for our preschoolers. The YMCA provided four different stations for the children to interact, explore and have fun while playing with their classmates and family members. We had a great turn out and it was enjoyed by all. Thank you to the YMCA and to our parents for making this Family Fun Day such a success.
To promote the message of “Choose Kind,” students at Northside watched the movie Wonder. In addition, classrooms completed “Choose Kind” extension activities during their class council meetings.
National Read Across America Week
First graders got into the spirit of promoting literacy this week with different themed days inspired by the works of Dr. Suess. Students celebrated “The Lorax” with painted mustaches and “The Cat in the Hat” by wearing hats. They engaged in a variety of activities as well, and they even got to eat some green eggs and ham!
Early Childhood Education Alliance's director, Elizabeth Hibbs has solicited the help of the talented AELS students to volunteer art work for their upcoming auction. Students have worked together as a class or individually on their pieces and will donate them in order to make this years auction more child focused and friendly. Deb Ware and Lynn Fast's class attempted a crayon melting piece as a reminder that spring is on the way!
Our second grade students are taking part in 6 sessions of swimming lessons at the YMCA. Students are divided up according to their swim levels and are instructed by YMCA personal. Students also learn about water safety and rescue skills. Students look forward to swimming days and are making great memories!
Congratulations to Caden Vernon and Kayleigh Taschwer who are our February “Sub for a Sub” Raffle Winners. Thank you for being great leaders in the classroom.
Deb Sutton's preschool students studied a unit about human bodies and the students checked heartbeats on each other, recorded observations and made appointments. The students learned about checking blood in the veins, how the heart, lungs and other parts work on the body and how to care for patients.
