Through the Ohio Arts Council Grant, Alliance City Schools was able to provide arts related opportunities to the students throughout the 2024-25 school year. One of the opportunities funded by the grant was Nova.
What is Nova?
Demetrius Thomas, known professionally as Nova the Rebel, is a Cleveland-based hip-hop artist signed to the iconic Cleveland-based rap group Bone Thugs N Harmony (BTNH). With over two decades of experience in music creation and performance, Demetrius has established himself as a dynamic and captivating artist. Touring with BTNH, Demetrius has shared the stage with prominent musicians including Snoop Dogg, TLC, and Dave Chapelle, among others. He has performed in front of crowds ranging from 500 to 15,000, earning a loyal fan base of nearly 20,000 followers. In addition to his musical pursuits, Demetrius is deeply committed to giving back to his community.
Demetrius (Nova) has served as a speaker at various organizations, including the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Shaker Heights, Library, group homes, and has organized concerts to raise funds for the Cleveland Food Bank's Harvest for Hunger program. He has also been recognized for his positive impact, receiving a letter of appreciation from former Mayor Frank G. Jackson.
Nowadays Demetrius has established Nova's Hip-Hop Academy, a Cleveland-based educational program that partners with local schools to nurture the development of young hip-hop and R&B artists through a hip-hop-focused curriculum. He is passionate about making a positive impact in his communities and their youth, both through his music and his community outreach efforts.
