The first Deaf Day at AHS took place Thursday and was organized by American Sign Language teacher Jennifer Armstead.
ASL students and community members were welcome to the auxiliary gym to play games, have snacks and talk.
It was a great opportunity for students to put their sign language vocabulary skills to use and to find things they have in common with the deaf community in Alliance.
This is the first year the ASL class was offered as a foreign language choice at AHS. There are over 100 students in the class. Over 300 students are interested in taking the course next year or advancing their ASL skills with an advanced course.
Students have performed the National Anthem in sign language at various school events and some students have used their sign language skills in public situations they have encountered as well.

Each year in the spring when staff has professional development day and students don't have classes, the Jetsetters music and dance performance group gets to work training up the next generation of performers. High School students in the Jetsetters group take the day to teach Junior Jetsetters, a group of 4th and 5th grade students interested in music and dance performance. They spend the day learning a song that they will perform to open the Cabaret show THIS FRIDAY. The Cabaret show is the last performance this school year and the last Jetsetters performance for the seniors involved.
The Junior Jetsetters practiced their song all day yesterday and formed some awesome new friendships with their older peers.
You can get tickets to the Cabaret show at the door on Friday evening or pay by credit card here: https://singingaviators.ludus.com/index.php
