Next week, 40 Aviators will become Wildcats as Alliance High School brings High School Musical to the stage. The production will run March 27-30.
The play follows the story of Troy Bolton, Gabriella Montez and all their friends as they navigate the waters of high school. The show brings a sense of nostalgia, as its themes of cliques, drama, and self-discovery are experiences that many can relate to. With High School Musical approaching its 20th anniversary, those who grew up singing and dancing along to the movies will have the chance to reminisce about their adolescent years as they hear familiar songs and dialogue throughout the production.
“High School Musical is a show that so many people grew up watching, singing along to, and loving,” said Carrie Chunat, Choir Director. “Bringing it to the stage allows audiences to relive that nostalgia while also introducing a new generation to its energy and relatable themes of trying to fit in. Whether you were a fan of the original movies or are experiencing the story for the first time, there’s something in this production that will make you smile and reminisce about your own high school years. It’s all about friendship, teamwork, and believing in yourself—messages that resonate with everyone. I’m excited for everyone to see it.”
With the original movie nearing the two-decade mark, the cast has had fun adding in modern elements to the production, such as technology, to make the production more current and relatable.
There will be five chances to see the show, with a special sing-along performance.
Thursday, March 27 at 7:30 pm
Friday, March 28 at 7:30 pm
Saturday, March 29 at 2:30 pm (sing-along matinee)
Saturday, March 29 at 7:30 pm
Sunday, March 30 at 2:30 pm
During the matinee sing-along performance on Saturday, audience members are encouraged to wear their letterman jackets or to dress in the decade they attended high school as a way to add to the fun of the performance. Special audience participation bags will be distributed to select audience members so they can participate in Wildcat cheers and chants within the sing-a-long matinee.
Tickets for the show are $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens and $8 for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. If a young child will be attending and an adult plans to hold them for the duration of the show, a ticket does not have to be purchased for them. Tickets are reserved seats and are available online at https://singingaviators.ludus.com/index.php.
This isn’t the first time AHS has tackled the popular Disney classic. In the fall of 2007, the students performed the show just a year after the movie was released on the Disney Channel.
This year’s production is directed by Chunat with Natalie Kern as the assistant director.
