On May 21, the Alliance Career Center received a grant from the CARES Act Section 18004(a)(1) in the amount of $54,090.00. The Alliance Career Center signed and returned to the Department of Education the Certification and Agreement confirming that the funds under Section 18004 (a)(1) of the CARES Act would be used to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.
This was to aid students who were attending institutions of Higher Learning that were affected by the interruption of classes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This was to be in the form of emergency assistance grants to the students currently enrolled.
The funds were to be used to cover expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to COVID-19 (including eligible expenses under a students cost of attendance, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care and child care).
At this time a total of 40 students eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in the Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1964 were awarded Emergency Financial Aid grants at Alliance Career Center.
The students were required to fill out an application to show need and explain how they were affected. The application, need and length of program was used by the administration to determine awards to each student. No funds could be used by Alliance Career Center, all funds were to be given to students.
